Mercedes-Benz E-Class (orig. E-Klasse, formerly German Einspritzung - "fuel injection") is a series of business-class passenger cars of the German Mercedes-Benz brand, officially introduced since 1993 and currently consisting of five generations.

Prior to 1993, Mercedes-Benz produced a series of business class cars without a unified naming structure. The "E" suffix came from the word Einspritzung, which in German meant fuel injection system, an innovative technological solution that first equipped the predecessors of the modern E-class in the 1960s (such as the 230 E). The market naming of the cars continued until the release of the Mercedes-Benz W124 in 1993, where the "E" symbol was used as a prefix (e.g. E 220), and the series of cars became officially known as the E-Class. There was no need to use the fuel system designation, as all of the company's vehicles were using fuel injection by that point.

Cars in the E-Class are available with gasoline, diesel, hybrid and natural gas (NGT) engines of various configurations (from I4 to V8), with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, as well as numerous body modifications: sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible (since 2009). In addition, the company also produces high-performance versions finalized by the engineers of the Mercedes-AMG division (E63 AMG and E53 AMG, previously E36 AMG, E43 AMG, E50 AMG, E55 AMG and E60 AMG).

E-Class cars are the best-selling cars in the Mercedes-Benz class hierarchy in the company's history. By 2015, more than 13 million units of the series had been sold[1].
